Geotechnical Reports 101 … and a Little Bit More
Dr. Norman Tan, P.E., from the Terracon Oklahoma City office, will be joining us in January to provide a refresher on Geotechnical side of the structual engineering industry. His presentation will review why Geotechnical Engineering Report is important, the preparation and development of Geotechnical Proposal and Report; and importance of integrating Geotechnical recommendations into the design and construction phases of a project. The presentation will also discuss how Geotechnical Report can improve the chances of a project success both technically and economically.
Dr. Tan is a geotechnical department manager in Terracon’s Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, office. Dr. Tan has over 15 years of experience performing geotechnical engineering functions. He has been involved in geotechnical investigations for wind farms, water treatment plants, bridges, roadways, commercial and residential buildings, retaining walls, utility relocations, industrial and chemical plants, storage tanks and communication towers. He also has experience in transportation projects for the Oklahoma Department of Transportation and earth dam inspections. Dr. Tan received his Doctorate, Masters and Bachelors degrees in Civil Engineering from the University of Oklahoma. While at the University of Oklahoma, his research involved pressuremeter and cone penetrometer testing in unsaturated soils and was funded by the National Science Foundation. As a graduate teaching assistant in Intoduction to Soil Mechanics and Laboratory and In-Situ Testiing courses. Dr. Tan is a member of the American Society of Civil Engineers and the Geo Institute. He resides in Oklahoma City with his wife and two children, where he enjoys photography in his spare time.
