Shear Wall Design Basics with Special Design Provisions
Doug Allen from Simpson Strong-Tie will be presenting an overview of Shear Wall Design Basics with Special Design Provisions for Wind and Seismic. His presentation will review the following:
- Mechanics of Shear Walls: Discussing the practical applications, basic functions and considerations for shear wall design
- Code and Standard Provisions: identify the code and standard provisions in the 2015 SDPWS pertaining to shear wall design.
- Shear Wall Design Basics: Discussing the basic design methods for shear walls sheathed with structural wood panels
- Pre-Fabricated Shear Walls: Identify applications that may required a pre-fabricated shear wall
Doug Allen is a Structural Engineer of the Southeast region of the US for Simpson Strong-Tie. He has a robust background of over 25 years of experience including roles as a Carpenter, Contractor, Structures Lab Tech, Research Assistant, Structural Designer, and Structural Engineering prior to joining Simpson Strong-Tie in 2016. Doug completed his Bachelor of Science and Master of Science degrees at Colorado State University in Fort Collins, CO. Doug provides a unique contribution to the engineering team understanding the overarching aspects of the construction industry.
